NKR High-Level Event on “Less Bureaucracy through Better EU Legislation” and Strategy Board Meeting Marked by Two Farewells

RegWatch Europe held its biannual Board Meeting on 23 and 24 June.

The Board Meeting took place alongside a high-level EU event on “Less Bureaucracy through Better EU Legislation”, featuring panellists including the German Federal Minister for Digitalisation and Government Modernisation, Dr Wildberger, Dr Denning (European Commission), Anna Pietikäinen (OECD), and several RegWatch Europe Board members.

During the Board Meeting, Lutz Goebel bid farewell to the DBRF colleagues following the decision, under the coalition agreement, to dissolve the DBRF and re-establish it in a different form. He thanked Emilie Hansen Foley and Paul Mollerup for their dedicated work and expressed his hope that their professional paths would cross again in the future. Lutz Goebel also expressed his appreciation to Marijke van Hees for her many years of commitment and valuable contributions to the RegWatch Europe network. She will step down as Chair of the ATR in 2026.

The Board also discussed the dissolution and restructuring of current and former RegWatch member organisations and the implications for the network. A draft strategy for the future of RegWatch Europe was presented and discussed. Its final adoption is scheduled for the Board Meeting in December 2026.

As part of a tour de table, members provided updates on the political situation in their respective countries and recent national developments in the fields of better regulation and impact assessment. Particular attention was given to ex post regulatory impact assessments (RIAs) through a presentation by the Czech Republic’s RIA Board. Two RegWatch papers were also discussed.
