RegWatchEurope (RWE) has published an Opinion that takes up the subject of the granularity of the cost calculations that are provided in EU impact assessments. This Opinion has also been sent to the Commissioner for Economy and Productivity, Implementation and Simplification.
An integrated approach to Better Regulation does not stop at the EU level but should involve Member State bodies as well. We note that national follow up Impact Assessments are becoming ever more common. There is however still a world to be won on the coherence of these efforts at the various levels. In this Opinion RWE takes up a seemingly technical point in addressing the need for the availability of granular EU cost calculations. We feel strongly that the handiwork of transposing European findings to the national contexts can be greatly enhanced simply by making underlying EU studies concerning cost calculations available to national authorities.
