RWE Workshop and Board Meeting

The last events to mark the end of the first half of the DEBR Presidency took place on June 30 and July 1. We had a Workshop on different aspects of digitalization and the regular Board Meeting.

Workshop “Digitalization in all its forms – potentials and solutions”

The workshop explored different areas of digitalization through three different sessions. Each session featured both presentations and time for discussions amongst presenters and members.

In the first session ‘Legislation in the digital era: What will it take to achieve the potential for burden reduction, that digitalization holds?’ RegWatchEurope was joined by Anders Bomholdt, teamlead and national expert on automated sustainability reporting at the Danish Business Authority (DBA). He presented DBA’s work with developing a roadmap for automated of sustainability report, the barriers that are on that road and solutions that will need to be developed to reach the potential for burden reduction, that automation holds.

In the second session ‘The potentials in using AI for impact assessments and scrutiny’, Czech Senior Analyst Jiri Hradec held a presentation on a methodology for scrutinizing complex documents using AI and presented an AI model he had developed for the purpose. Further, RWE was joined by Catharina Lewerenz and Sylvana Walprecht from the Federal Statistical Office of Germany and by Krystof Kotyza from the Government Analytical Unit Czech Republic who each presented their AI projects aimed at assisting regulators with performing impact assessments and quantifying burdens for businesses.

The third session was a closed RWE session on a project regarding the European GDPR legislation, comparing RWE member countries initiatives both in terms of national impact assessments, follow up evaluations and feedback into the EU policy cycle. The project is still in progress and will be shared with the public when finalized.

Board Meeting

The Board Meeting held the following day addressed a variety of RWE topics. On the agenda was a presentation from a aspiring new RWE member, the RIA Board of Moldova, on which the existing RWE members will decide in the coming meetings. During the meeting, another aspiring new member, Romanian Regulatory Impact Assessment Council (CCEIAN), was welcomed as the newest member of RegWatchEurope as finalizing the process of their initiation into the network. RegWatchEurope was also joined by Anna Pietikäinen, Head of Division OECD, for apresentation of the findings and data behind the 2025 Regulatory Policy Outlook after which RWE finalized the formalities regarding a more permanent RWE-OECD collaboration.
